What to expect from the upcoming Xiaomi 12?

Xiaomi 12 is going to be the flagship phone from the manufacturer, Xiaomi. It will have some of the most premium features, and it is indicated that the price will also be a premium tag. Some of the things we have heard regarding the phone are ridiculous, and we can't wait to see if it is true. But till the actual release of the phone, it is just a wishful expectation. So what is all new about the upcoming flagship? What can we expect Xiaomi to add to its new flagship device? Here is everything that you'll need to know about the upcoming Xiaomi 12.

But first, to clear some things regarding the phone, Xiaomi is said to drop the 'Mi' out of its series name and call it the Xiaomi 12. Of course, some fans might be upset with this as Mi was frequently used instead of Xiaomi. But to move on with the nomenclature of the phone, let's talk about the key features that we can expect from the 2022 flagship.

Camera

We cannot wait to see what the resolution is going to be in the Xiaomi 12 camera. Rumours suggest that the Xiaomi 12 will feature the first-ever 200MP camera on its flagship phone. If the rumours are true, this high-res camera will take a massive leap in the camera game. Although, this rumour might come true as Xiaomi has already featured a 108MP camera on its last phone. So, it seems 200MP might be a proper step to take. However, contradicting this rumour is another speculation from the leaks that the camera might not be 200MP but have a smaller unit, somewhere around 190MP. In any case, it is be expected that the Xiaomi 12 will have powerful hardware regarding its camera. However, the 200MP unit is probably reserved for the higher variant or the Ultra variant of the device. It is not available on the standard variant. 

Camera Sensor

Besides, the 200MP camera of the Xiaomi 12 is also set to have an excellent sensor to go along with, as a big camera is not enough to get better images. The Xiaomi is said to borrow Samsung's ISCELL HP1 sensor, which is by far the only sensor that could accommodate the sizeable 200MP camera on a smartphone. Suppose these speculations hold then, Xiaomi 12 will be the phone of choice for mobile photography. It will shoot amazing 200 MP images with 0.6um pixels and 50MP images with 1.28 um pixels. The phone is also going to be capable of 8K video recording.

Furthermore, the sensor will also provide impressive low-light photo capabilities with 16-in-1 pixel binning tech that will take 12.5MP pictures with 2.56um pixels. It is yet to see how all these upgrades are going to pan out in reality. However, on paper, Xiaomi 12 will take the crown for the most powerful camera in a smartphone to date.

Charging & Battery

Another mind-blowing speculation is in regards to the charging capability of the phone. Xiaomi has unveiled a new charging technology with the name Xiaomi HyperCharge. What's impressive about this is that it can charge a 4000mAh battery unit in under 10 minutes with 200W wired charging. The figure for wireless charging is equally impressive, where it can charge a 4000mAh battery in 15 minutes with 120W charging speed. This rumour, if true, means that Xiaomi is set to take giant leaps on essential features with its 2022 flagship phone. However, it is unclear if all the phones will receive this upgrade or if it is only kept for the Ultra variant.

Other Specifications:

Besides the significant upgrades in the camera and the charging capability on the new Xiaomi 12 series, other specifications remain pretty modest. However, there are a few other upgrades that we will get on other hardware features of the phone.

Screen

The significant change on the screen is that the new Xiaomi 12 phone will feature an LTPO panel in its display, which will allow the phone's refresh rate to be changed. However, the refresh rate of the phone is going to be 120Hz at the highest. We have already heard of the changeable refresh rate on Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro with its Tensor Sensor. Xiaomi is not known to lag on the essential new features on its latest devices. The Xiaomi 12 will also have slimmer bezels on the screen and a slightly smaller punch-hole design than its previous front camera smartphone. These inclusions are going to provide an impressive screen-to-body ratio on the new Xiaomi 12.

Chipset

Xiaomi already has one of the best chipsets on its devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+. However, Xiaomi could take a step further by including the brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 processor on its upcoming Xiaomi 12 series smartphones. The inclusion of this processor on its smartphones is set to improve the performance and efficiency of the smartphone. This rumour holds much ground as other manufacturers are improving their chipset, and the competition with the new launch is fierce.

Design

Regarding the phone's design, the new Xiaomi 12 might not look a lot different from the previous Xiaomi Mi 11 Series smartphones. Although some physical features get upgrades, the phone's design language is estimated to be the same. However, since the leaked images of the phone in China revealed little to nothing in terms of design, viewers are kept in the dark despite the leaked images.

These are all the changes and upgrades that are out there regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 12 lineup. Some of which are pretty exciting, and others not so much. It would be a treat from Xiaomi if they priced the device modestly. However, with all the features and rumours surrounding the premium price on the upcoming lineup from Xiaomi, it is better to expect the latter than the former statement in terms of cost.
