Did you drop your phone into the water?

Accidents do happen, sometimes you might just end up dropping your phone into the water. If it is just a minor exposure to the rain or a little water on the table, it might not be much big of a problem. Most phones these days are built to be resistant to water. However, if you’re phone starts acting up after the exposure, then this could be one of the most severe cases. As the internals are susceptible to damage due to the conductivity of water, which might just fry the whole system rendering the phone to be useless. So, the best advice is to just get the phone to the repair centre as quickly as possible. Although, there are certain things that you’ll need to be aware of in case of water damage.

Here are some of the tips to follow:

Do not use the phone any further or charge the phone

The water might have gone into the internals so, it is best not to use the phone and charging the phone is not an option at all. You can try turning off your phone which will stop any activity of the device so no further harm can be caused due to the water.

Dry your phone using a towel

Dry your phone with a towel to get some of the moisture off the phone. You can try getting the moisture off from the ports and jacks of the phone. However, do it gently so the ports are not damaged by applying excess pressure.

Remove any removable parts

You can remove the removable parts of the phone such as a sim card tray, micro SD tray and even battery if it is removable. However, do not move around the phone or blow into the phone as much to avoid spreading water all over the internals.

Don’t press any keys

Try avoiding pressing any keys unnecessarily by mistake, this might end up pushing water deep inside the device which is not good.

Don’t try drying the phone using heat

This might further cause damage instead of fixing the phone. Leave the fixing to the professionals. You might accidentally damage the internal parts with excess heat.

The normal time for any water-soaked phone to dry is 2-3 days. So, try getting the phone cleaned by a professional. If that is not possible for you, hold off on using the phone till it gets dry.
