How To Tackle Battery Issues in Cold Weather?

We have already talked about how to get the best out of your smartphone battery. We have also talked about overheating issue on the devices. However, in contrast, we have not talked about the battery drain issue on smartphones in cold weather. Cold weather not only impacts us but impacts our phones as well. So if you happen to live in a colder climate or have ever been to one, you might be familiar with the issue you face on your phone due to the weather.

Most smartphones come with lithium-ion batteries, and this issue is not specific to any brands or models. You might think you need to replace the battery on your device. However, we are here to clarify that it might not be a time to replace the battery. Here is how you can keep your phone battery from acting in cold weather.

But first, to clarify the issue properly, smartphone batteries generally face issues in a cold climate. In some cases, the phone often dies even when there is a charge in the battery. Other times, the battery doesn't hold power as long as it should. The cold might also cause your phone to work slow or the screen to get unresponsive. In any case, if these issues seem too familiar, then it is time for you to take preventive measures to protect your phone against the cold weather.

Here are some of the precautions that you can take so you can use your phone without the risk of damaging it:

Protective Cases

There are plenty of cases available in the market for this very reason. The design of the thermal protective cases keeps your phone at idle temperature even when exposed to colder temperatures. Though these cases might not provide the same sleek design, they are oriented more from a utilitarian point than an aesthetical one. So if you constantly find yourself struggling to operate your phone in cold locations, this is a solid way to deal with the issue.

Smartwatches

Although smartwatches are also powered by similar batteries found in smartphones. They are tied down to our wrist, maintaining a favourable temperature for the device in colder temperatures. This way, you can perform all the essential tasks that you would usually use your phone for. Even in extreme weather scenarios, tucking your watch under your clothes could prevent the device from issues that you face with your smartphone.

Extra Charger

Carrying an extra charger seems unnecessary these days under normal circumstances. There is a secondary power source such as power banks to charge your phone; however, in cold weather, the power bank also faces a similar issue faced by a lithium-ion powered smartphone. This is why having an extra charger is always essential under these circumstances. This way, you can plug your phone in, is you must use your phone. You'll need to find a power source available, and you are good to go.

Switching Off Your Device

The ability of the phone to withstand temperature significantly increases if you turn off your phone. You might not be able to get any use out of your phone by this method, but it indeed prevents your phone from getting damaged. So in a case where your phone is unresponsive, is turning off constantly or acting up in any way while in cold temperature, it is best to let your phone rest. This way, you can later warm your phone up indoors and turn it on to see if erratic issues arise. However, it is advised not to warm your device too rapidly using external heat. Letting your phone gradually warm up at room temperature is the best way to ensure your phone isn't facing any damage.

With these methods, you can always use your phone under cold weather without any issues. However, do note that the effects on your phone due to the weather are temporary. The phone will perform as it should under the circumstances, and you don't need to take your device for repair if you face these issues under cold weather. However, suppose you are constantly in a cold climate. In that case, applying all the above precautions is the best way to use your smartphone without any interruption.
